Spring Clean Your Thoughts to Stay Motivated

You can have the most beautiful garden in the world but you still have to weed it, feed it and cultivate it. Motivation is the same way. Almost everyone has some level of motivation but even the most determined people find it difficult to remain motivated 100% of the time. Successful folks often use personal coaches and make the decision to do what others don’t do to consistently renew their mind and spirits daily. They listen to motivational messages, use affirmations, create vision boards, take time to meditate on their goals and aspirations, and they use coaches and other professionals to help them remain focused and motivated over the long-haul.

None of us can eliminate all of the people or activities that demotivate us. But here are four things that you can do:

  1. Limit your time with the people who demotivate you or make you feel less than. We all have them in our lives. Make a conscious effort to spend less time with those kinds of people.
  2. Learn to change the topic. For example, “Are you sure you want to go back to school? It seems like such a waste of time for you.” Answer: “Not at all. I am so excited about learning something you. You should find a goal or hobby that invigorates you! Knowing that I am investing in myself feels amazing!” If you do this a few times, they will find another victim. Or maybe take your advice.
  3. Surround yourself with people that DO motivate you. Get in a group of like minded individuals or find someone who you admire and motivates you and ask them to serve as your accountability partner. Tell them how much you admire them and let them know that you would really like to be around that kind of mentorship more often.
  4. Create positive affirmations. Post positive affirmations in your notebook, around your bathroom mirror, on the dashboard of your car, in your office cubicle, etc. Say them in the mirror or if that doesn’t work for you or you feel weird about talking to yourself in the mirror, download an affirmation app or Bible app and get positivity sent to your phone each morning. You could also watch motivation speeches by the greats on You Tube.

Staying motivated takes work but it is so worth it. Take the time to develop a motivation plan that works for you and tap into a personal branding coach that cancels out the negative noise.
