Strong, compassionate women begin with educated and confident girls

Building girls from the inside out

The other day I heard the fabulous actress, Viola Davis in an interview discussing her iconic roles as well as some of her earlier challenges. The conversations with her and a few other actresses turned to ‘sexy’ as they discussed the discomfort that some comes with on-camera sex scenes. Mrs. Davis shared that she remembers that she was ‘acting’ sexy earlier in her career because she hadn’t really identified what sexy was for herself.

This reminded me of a recent shopping trip with my daughter. We were updating her undergarments and made the leap from little girl to pre-teen. As we entered the store that couldn’t be more invited for a tween or pre-teen, I noticed the images on the wall like never before. Young, thin, primarily white and it become clear that they were selling undergarments - what they were selling was sex.

“We need women who are so strong, they can be gentle, so educated they can be humble, so fierce they can be compassionate, so passionate they can be rational and so disciplined they can be free." - Kavita Ramdas

Now, I have frequented this store often, and wasn’t naive to what they were selling. But I realized that I wasn’t ok with them selling their ideal of sexy to my daughter. Because I want my daughter to love HER body, not some ideal of her body. I want her to understand the incredible workmanship of her body and see it as strong and powerful. And most of all, I want her to know that being exactly who she is is the most perfect thing she can do.

I am so glad that I discovered JstBU for young women. The company designs body-confident undergarments that are comfortable and provide support. And the company is committed to helping girls feel good about who they are and what they are wearing - bonus: my daughter loves them. In addition, each garment comes with a little hidden affirmation that encourages girls that no matter where they are or who they are to just BE - to Jstbualways. And in celebration of Women’s History Month they gave me the promo code TONYAROCHELLE20 to share with you for your girls to use as checkout - score! I hope you like them as much as we do.

And remember no matter what your age to JstBU.
