I can’t be the only one…

Updated: Jul 14

I can’t be the only one who sometimes ignores their health...until now.

I admit it and I can’t be the only one. I have been guilty of skipping a year {or two} of doctors or dentists visits when my schedule gets too busy. And truth be told, I never missed a gynelogic examine when I was in my twenties because I wanted to make sure that my reproductive health was in tact for the day that I wanted to have kids.

But once the kids arrived my doctor’s appointments dropped to the bottom of the endless to do list and eventually my health paid the price.

I found myself extremely tired and couldn’t figure out why. My normal 5:30 am workouts that once gave me the energy boost I needed to get my day started were no longer working. I started to have headaches and finally made an emergency visit to my general practitioner for a full examination.

But once the kids arrived my doctor’s appointments dropped to the bottom of the endless to do list and eventually my health paid the price.

Turns out, it was something that could be fixed. I had a major Vitamin D deficiency and didn’t realize that it can cause symptoms like fatigue, bone pain, muscle weakness, muscle aches and mood changes like depression just to name a few. And I was experiencing them all.

I know that once you get older you are no longer thinking about pregnancy, but remember that there are a lot of people that are depending on you. And more importantly, you are depending on you to help you crush your big goals.

We’re midway through the year. So it’s time. If you haven’t gotten your annual exams, use this checklist to schedule your annual appointments right away. Make sure to ask your doctor about other screenings that you may need.

Annual Checkup:

· An annual exam with your general practitioner

· Make sure to update in vaccinations you need

· Have an annual mammogram every 1 to 2 years

· Get an annual screening for blood pressure

· See your gynecologists for an annual pap smear

· Go to the dentist for a cleaning every 6 months

· Monitor your body mass index and get on a regular diet and exercise program.

Here is a comprehensive site to help you create a personal healthcare plan.

I’ve taken up bike riding again as part of my exercise program. Not normally in this dress, but I couldn’t pass up on the great lighting.

Take care of your body and remember the rest of your life can be the best of your life!
