How I styled this red cardigan from H&M

Updated: Nov 14

This comfy, classic cardigan you’ll wear everywhere

Fall in Florida is tricky because temps can go from the mid-80’s to the 60’s within a few hours. {I know those of you who leave in the North are giving me no sympathyNorthern friends}. But whether you live in a more tropical climate like mine or in more frigid fall and winter temps, there is nothing that will keep you more cozy or comfortable than a cardigan.

I have lots of cardigans so this year I decided to make sure that I selected one with lots of color and an interesting detail or shape. I came across this cardigan from H&M.com and was sold. It’s got just the weight that I need for our warmer days and cooler nights. Also great for dining out because I am always cold or dining outside which the hubby and I have opted to stick to during the pandemic.

I have a pretty firm rule for purchases that I use with my styling clients which is to never buy a separate - which includes pants, skirts, sweaters, blazers, shirts - that can’t work with at least three items in my existing wardrobe. This sweater fit that bill and was the perfect color as we move into the holiday season.

Get miles of style from a simple cardigan.

I started out with a casual look. First, I styled it with an existing shirt dress. Hint: Don’t put away your summer dresses. Instead try pairing them with a cardigan or blazer to ‘winterize’ them. I added another shirt that I wrapped around my waist to give the look some layers and boots. As the temperatures get cooler you can also add a turtleneck underneath and tights for added warmth.

Next, I selected a red dress for a monochromatic look. Instead of a classic pump, I opted for a high heeled combat boot. I love the softness of the gauze dress in contrast to the boot. Perfect dress for delivering gifts, holiday pics and outside drinks with the girls.

The third look is a holiday classic. I paired a classic spaghetti strapped dress, a simple class pump and the red sweater on top. Since we’ll be staying close to home for both Thanksgiving and Christmas it’s the perfect way to add a little simple glamour to our at-home celebrations.
